Interim report for the end of the EU 10 commitment period (2007-2012)

On the 14th of July 2012, after five years, the commitment period of Switzerland’s EU enlargement contribution comes to an end. During this period, Switzerland appraised and approved together with the new EU-countries from Central and Eastern Europe 210 projects, which are now being implemented with the financial support of Switzerland until the end of 2017.

Swiss heat pumps for the Julian Alps
Switzerland is working in Slovenia within the framework of its enlargement contribution on two infrastructure projects in the field of energy. The realisation of such projects has led on the one hand to the building of new infrastructure – for example new solar panels, heat pumps or biomass boilers – and on the other to the creation of one single platform through which Swiss firms can enter the Slovenian market and forge contacts with local firms more easily.

Lithuanian "Tafel" works together with Swiss counterpart
The Lithuanian NGO, Maistobankas, distributes around eight tonnes of food every day to people in need and to social institutions. Since 2011, the NGO has maintained a close relationship with the "Schweizer Tafel" (Swiss Table), a project of the "Hoffnung für Menschen in Not” (Hope for People in Need) foundation, which also distributes food and has similar goals.

2013 annual report on Switzerland’s enlargement contribution
The 2013 annual report on Switzerland’s enlargement contribution has been published. It illustrates the concrete results of the contribution through projects, and shows why the enlargement contribution is also in Switzerland’s interests. At the end of 2013, more than 200 projects were in the process of implementation; 13 had already been completed. An important event in 2013 was the annual conference on Swiss Cooperation with Eastern Europe on the theme of the importance, impact and potential of the enlargement contribution, at which project staff reported on their experiences.
